The mock neckline covers the throat and squares off the top of the dress, while the lace hem breaks up the satin at the bottom and softens what would otherwise be a very sharp line. Ruching through the body keeps the surface catching light rather than sitting flat. The high neckline means you can skip a necklace and let statement earrings do the work instead. Wash it in a mesh bag so the lace hem does not snag, then hang while slightly damp so the ruching settles without pressing.
